Funding
An important element of early-career researchers’ career portfolio when pursuing an academic career is the acquisition of third-party funds. Own funds enable young scientists to develop their own research profile and become independent.
When planning to apply for third-party funds, the IFU Graduate Program (Elija Bleher) can give you a comprehensive overview on funding programs suitable for your specific career phase and can support you when writing the proposal. Please make an appointment for consultation. From time to time we also offer IFU seminars on third-party funding and career development for early-career researchers. At IFU, a doctoral student fund exists that supports events organized by and for IFU doctoral students, such as retreats, networking events and workshops. Ask Elija Bleher for the guidelines.
Maximilian Frenz, IFU’s Head of Administration and Vice Institute Manager, is the contact person at IFU when it comes to administrative or calculative matters related to grant application and project management and is liaison to KIT’s Research Office (FOR).
At KIT, the Research Office (FOR) as a central service unit informs and accompanies scientists and science managers in the acquisition of research funds and the coordination of research projects (service available to KIT employees, information therefore partly only available on the intranet). For advice and support for third-party funded project, visit: https://www.for.kit.edu/english
For a list on funding opportunities see the website of the Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS) for doctoral researchers and for postdocs. KHYS also offers intramural funding to its doctoral researchers and postdocs, e.g. for internationalization and networking.
Particularly qualified early-career researchers with a doctorate who are pursuing an academic career at KIT can apply for funding through the Young Investigator Group Preparation Program (YIG Prep Pro). With this program, KIT offers funding and mentorship to pursue a promising research idea and prepare a proposal for an own third-party funded junior research group.
