Balancing Minds in Science (3) - Dealing with failure & rejection

This online series aims to shed light on the challenges that researchers (or others working in an academic environment) face in their daily lives and to understand strategies that foster resilience, balance, and health within this demanding landscape.

Our third session will be given by Dr. Nicola Bauer (JoyWorks Training, Munich) on "Dealing with failure and rejection in academia – how to stay resilient". It will take place on October 29, 2025, 11:00 – 12:30 via Zoom.

Abstract: Major parts of research, i.e. repeated experiments with recurrent failure until success or rejected papers, demand and promote strong resilience. The embedment in a highly demanding work environment, however, often leads to a decline in researchers’ resilience. This talk will shed some light on the psychological interplay of inner motivation, failure and high-pressure environment in academia. Furthermore, it invites for some changes of perspectives and the realization of response-ability in form of concrete steps of mental, emotional, embodied and habitual approaches for dealing with these challenges. This talk will give you impulses to reconnect with your inner strength and to become aware of individual resources and approaches to foster your self-efficacy and resilience.

To participate, please register here: https://soscisurvey.scc.kit.edu/balancingminds/

After the registration you will receive access to the Teams channel 'IFSS_Balancing Minds in Science', where you find the access data for the online session and further information. The session will be recorded.

We warmly encourage you to bring your lunch, tune in, and invest in your well-being as a vital part of your scientific journey. If you have suggestions for topics you’d like us to address in the future, please feel free to contact us or write it in the chat once we meet for the talk.
